Wingo Hall: This apartment dormitory was dedicated on Thanksgiving Day 1934. The principal speaker was Senator Joe T. Robinson, who spoke on “The Relation of the New Deal to Education.” The entire legislature was invited to the ceremony and those in attendance were given complimentary tickets to the UCA-Hendrix football game later that day. Wingo Hall was the first PWA project in the state of Arkansas to be completed and dedicated.
Mrs. Wingo: After the death of her husband, Mrs. Wingo filled his seat in the U.S. Congress. She was the second woman from Arkansas to serve in the U.S. Congress. She was elected on her own to the 72nd Congress, and served until March 3, 1933. She died on September 19, 1962.
