DR. JAMES DOMBEK COLLECTION

Jim Dombek was born in Paris, Arkansas on June s, 1937, to Lillian and Stanley Dombek. He graduated from Paris High School in 1955, and received his bachelors degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) in 1959. He taught mathematics and physics at Morrilton High School during the 1958-1959 school year. Mr. Dombek attended the University of Kansas where he received a masters degree in mathematics in 1962. In 1970 he received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Tennessee. He taught mathematics at Wisconsin State University before returning to the University of Central Arkansas as a mathematics instructor in 1970.
Dr. Dombek served as a full time professor of mathematics until 1983 when he was appointed dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. While he was dean the college offered thirty programs and provided sixty percent of the instruction for UCA. His responsibilities as dean included budget development, promotion and tenure, recruitment of staff and faculty and leadership in general for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Dombek died on March 6, 2002 and is survived by his sons, Eric Dombek of Conway and wife Susan, and Franklin Dombek of Greenbrier; four granddaughters, Dalena, Katherine, Carrie and Allison; his mother and stepfather, Lillian and Chester Stephenson of Paris, Arkansas; four brothers and a sister, Fred of Paris, Bob of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, George of Goshen, Arkansas, Don of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Paula Hutchinson of Bentonville, Arkansas. Marsha Dombek Kirkendoll, Darla Hutchinson Phillips-nieces, and Clint Hutchinson-nephew also survive him.
Dr. Dombek is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Paris, Arkansas.
