David W. Bizzell

M94-07

David W. Bizzell was born in 1905 to Marvazine W. and Sirena Armstrong Bizzell in Des Arc.  He served as a staff sergeant during World War II in the Army Air Corps.  During the period from the 50’s to the 70’s.  Mr. Bizzell served as a Pulaski County deputy clerk.  His wife, Sylvia Pearl died in 1949, and he died on May 5, 1994 at the age of 88.

David Bizzell was not only a historian but also an amateur archaeologist.  As a member of the Pulaski County Historical Society, he worked to preserve the historical records and sites in the area, and he received the Historical Society’s Shillcut Award in 1982.  Mr. Bizzell was also a member of the Kiwanis, Arkansas Pioneers, and the United Commercial Travelers, and he received awards and recognition from these and other organizations.

The largest portion of the collection consists of historic research done by him on a variety of subjects pertaining to Arkansas including county histories, Arkansas cemeteries, Spanish land grants, some genealogy work, and the “Greathouse” home in Faulkner County.  The collection also contains some personal and business papers, as well as a number of photographs.  (Approximately 15 turn-of-the-century photographs were removed from the collection and placed in the general photograph collection).
