DR. WILLIAM G. HOLLAND PAPERS

     This collection consists of the business records of Dr. William G. Holland of Pangburn (White County).  Born the son of a physician on April 6, 1847 in Tennessee, Dr. Holland was raised in and around White County and attended private schools.  He enlisted in the Confederate army in 1864 and shortly thereafter was wounded and captured at Pilot Knob.  Upon release from the Rock Island, Ill. prison camp, Holland returned to Arkansas and began his apprenticeship in medicine under his father's guidance.  After receiving his medical diploma in 1871 from the University of Louisville at Kentucky, Dr. Holland returned to Arkansas and practiced medicine in Cleburne, Pope, and White counties. In 1884, Dr. Holland began a drugstore when he retired from active practice and successfully ran it into the 1920's.

 

     These records include his visiting lists of patients, accounts receivable, and a Medicine Record Book from his drug- store.  In addition, enclosed is the register of "Friends of Temperance" of which a relative was a member.

     This collection is filed chronologically under his accounts payable and visiting lists with the "Temperance" register filed last.
