The papers of James "Uncle Mac" MacKrell are mainly comprised of newspaper clippings from the gubernatorial races of 1948 and 1970. MacKrell ran for governor first in 1948 on the Democratic ticket, but in 1970 he changed his allegiance to the Republican party.
MacKrell was well known in
MacKrell died while interviewing a group of teenagers on a radio show in 1972.
Arrangement
The papers are arranged in one series with MacKrell's religious and philanthropic materials coming first, followed by photographs, and finally by political newspaper clippings.
