Harry W. Readnour received his B. A. from the Oklahoma State University (1957-1961) with a Major in History and a Minor in Political Science. He received his M. A. from George Washington University at Washington, D. C. (1961-1962) in Government with his major field in U. S. Public Administration and his thesis being
“U.S. Senate Post Office and Civil Service Committee.” He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, Virginia (1962-1965, 1967-1968, and summer 1970) with his major field in United States Recent and Minor Fields in U.S. Colonial, Middle Period, and Southern Europe since 1815, Russian Revolution and Soviet Regime. His Dissertations was “General Fitzhugh Lee of Virginia (1835-1905): A Biographical Study.” Dr. Harry W. Readnour has received honors or has been a member of: Student Assistant in History at Oklahoma State University (1960-1961), Scottish Rite Fellow at George Washington University (1961-1962); Philip Francis du Pont Fellow at University of Virginia (1963-1965 & 1967-1968); Bronze Star (Service in connection with actions against hostile ground forces), II Field Forces, United States Army Republic Vietnam, Long Binh, Vietnam (1967); and R.O.T.C. Summer Workshop in Military History at United State Military Academy at West Point, New York (1984)
In the Area of Administrative Service Dr. Readnour has been: Captain Infantry, U.S. Army (1965-1967); Operations Officer, 219th M.I. Detachment, Fort Brag, North Carolina (1966); Operations Officer and Acting Commanding Officer of same unit, II Field Forces, USARV (1966-1967); Chairman, Department of History, Cottey College, Nevada, Missouri (1968-1970); Senior Warden at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Conway, Arkansas (1976); Director of Exemplary Studies, University of Central Arkansas, Conway, Arkansas (1979); President, Faculty Council at University of Central Arkansas (1980-1981); Acting Chairman, Department of History, UCA during the summer session (1985); Interim Chairman, Department of History, UCA (Jul. 1, 1986-1987); President of the Kiwanis Club of Conway (1986-1987); and Chair of the History Department (1987-1995). He has also taught as a part-time instructor (Volunteer) in the Bien Hoa Province of Vietnam, an Associate Professor of History at Cottey College, Nevada, Missouri (1968-1971); and an Assistant, Associate, and Professor of History at the University of Central Arkansas (1971-present).
