The Julian B. Priddy photograph collection consists of 3,747 images: 694 black and white prints, 2,122 black and white negatives, 340 color slides and 591 color negatives.
The collection spans the period from about 1886 to about 1970, and documents a variety of subjects which include the Priddy family, friends, portions of the American Southwest, Navajo and Hopi Indians and scenes of Arkansas and several other states. The collection was donated by Julian B. Priddy on December 19, 1987.
Julian Buril Priddy was born in Danville, Yell County, Arkansas, in 1901. His parents were Arthur Buril and Augusta Ellington Priddy. The eldest of seven children, Priddy attended Hendrix College at Conway, from 1919-1921, and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he Graduated with an AB degree in 1923. The same year, the Priddy family moved to Russellville, Pope County Arkansas. Priddy entered the Little Rock Law School and Graduated in 1925. He had planned to practice law in Russellville, like his father, but in 1926 he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Following his doctors recommendation, Priddy moved to Arizona where he lived until 1935. After his return to Arkansas, Priddy worked for State Treasurer Earl Page. He also studied for and became a Certified Public Accountant and was employed by Russell Brown and Company. In 1949 Priddy went into business for himself and established what has become the North Little Rock accounting firm of Priddy, Priddy, Crigger, and Holifield. He retired as the senior partner in 1984.
Priddy married Dorothy Davidson August 9, 1941. They have two children, Norman Buril and Jane (now Dr.Jane Priddy Stephens). Norman has continued his father's accounting business and Jane is a professor of psychology at Austin College at Sherman, Texas.
